10:30 pm curfew on the PC, phone’s confiscated at 11:00 pm. But that’s fine, my mom has a track record for inconsistency, and she doesn’t really hide what she got in some place secure.
Also, the laundry pile is about to fill up and it’s still gonna rain tomorrow.

No kidding...I mean, I know it’s not a direct comparison to my life in 1987, but grounded used to mean NO contact with the outside world unless it was monitored (and/or academically necessary). I could sit in my room and read books, look out the window...that was about it. This just sounds like normal house rules to me.

You have it so easy. I restricted my son’s access to the internet for the entire summer . If he wanted to get online, he had to ask permission and explain what he planned to do. It happened after he spent the first week of summer doing nothing but staring at his phone.

Even less than that. I pulled an all-nighter playing Mechquest. I was supposed to be in bed at 11, but dad caught me playing at 2:40 am. Shit’s effective for 5 months, right at a key juncture in thesis work. Or at least until they forget. It’s both funny and unsettling, really. Back then this worked—and I got a phone 9 months ago!

See, in reality my parents show up quite late, like, 9:30 pm late most days of the week, and because my elder brother goes home one or two hours later than that, I serve their dinner (my aunt cooks, or Mom buys roast from a rotisserie). Also, there are times when I hitch up at 8 (my posts are scheduled, except for the afternoon posts, which I do over lunch at the cafeteria), so 2 hours for all that I want and have to do is a *bit* short (granted, I do my school checklist at school, so...)
I’ve done worse shit in my 18 years, and my punishment for the worst ones is a literal beating from my dad and mom, followed by lucid dreams of me beating them up in return as well as suicide. This current offense is nothing.
I’m an asshole. An asshole who happens to pop a 1.00 in two rows on my grade sheet once at certain quarters.

After 16 my parents never told me when I had to go to bed. At 18 I’d probably laugh if they told me to go to bed.
